What neurotoxins do.

Botox (onabotulinumtoxinA), Dysport (abobotulinumtoxinA), Xeomin (incobotulinumtoxinA) and Jeuveau (prabotulinumtoxinA) are FDA-approved neuromodulators. They temporarily block the signal from a nerve to a muscle, so the muscle relaxes and the skin above it smooths out. Over time, regular treatment also helps keep dynamic lines from etching into permanent creases.

All four products work in a similar way. They differ in their formulation, how quickly they take effect and how they spread. Dr. Burris will recommend the product that best suits your anatomy, your goals and your schedule.

Common areas treated.

  • Frown lines (the "11s" between the brows)
  • Horizontal forehead lines
  • Crow's feet around the eyes
  • Bunny lines on the nose
  • Lip lines and a subtle lip flip
  • Chin dimpling and a downturned mouth
  • Jaw clenching and masseter slimming
  • Neck bands (platysmal bands)

What to expect.

Your first visit begins with a conversation about what bothers you and how you want to look. Dr. Burris studies how your face moves before marking any injection points. The injections themselves take about 10–15 minutes and use a very fine needle. Most patients describe the sensation as a quick pinch.

Results begin to appear in 3–5 days and are fully visible at about two weeks. Results typically last 3–4 months. Avoid lying flat, strenuous exercise and rubbing the treated areas for the rest of the day.

Frequently asked questions.

When should I start Botox?

There's no single right age. Many patients start in their late 20s or 30s, once lines begin to linger after the face relaxes. Starting earlier with lower doses can help prevent deeper lines from forming. Dr. Burris will tell you honestly whether treatment makes sense for you yet.

Will I look frozen?

Not if it's done well. Dr. Burris doses conservatively and places injections to preserve natural expression. If small adjustments are needed, they're made once the product has fully settled, at about two weeks.

What's the difference between Botox, Dysport, Xeomin and Jeuveau?

All four are FDA-approved neurotoxins with similar results. Dysport can take effect slightly faster and spread a bit more, which suits larger areas such as the forehead. Xeomin is a 'naked' toxin without accessory proteins, and Jeuveau is designed specifically for cosmetic use. Dr. Burris will recommend the best fit at your visit.

Is there downtime?

Very little. Small bumps at injection sites fade within about 20 minutes, and occasional minor bruising can be covered with makeup. Most patients go straight back to work.

Who should not get neurotoxin injections?

Patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding, or who have certain neuromuscular conditions, should not be treated. Dr. Burris reviews your medical history before every first treatment.
